IBC CLINIC AND HOUSTON ALUMNAE ASSOCIATION OF ZETA TAU ALPHA'S SUPPORT OVER THE YEARS

For more than 16 years, Zeta Tau Alpha's Houston Alumnae Association has worked diligently to support inflammatory breast cancer research at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center Morgan Welch Inflammatory Breast Cancer Research Program and Clinic. Zeta Tau Alpha's Houston Alumnae Association has generously contributed over $300,000 towards MD Anderson Cancer Center's mission to end cancer and provide the highest level of care for patients and caregivers.

The current standard of care in treatment for inflammatory breast cancer is based on conventional protocols of surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy that were developed for multiple types of breast cancer. In the last 30 years, little has changed regarding treatment and survival rates for those diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer although IBC is found to be the most aggressive form of breast cancer primarily due to the distinctive biological features which differentiate it from other types of breast cancer.

Zeta Tau Alpha's Houston Alumnae Association chooses to support MD Anderson’s multi-disciplinary team at the IBC Clinic because they believe strongly in the ultimate goal of improving the survival rates of inflammatory breast cancer patients. The research done by the team within the Morgan Welch Inflammatory Breast Cancer Research Program and Clinic focuses on identifying specific genomic and proteomic signatures of inflammatory breast cancer. This research will guide the development of innovative tools for diagnosis, identifying therapeutic approaches specifically for the treatment of inflammatory breast cancer, and enhancing imaging approaches to assist in detecting the disease and evaluating the effectiveness of treatment for inflammatory breast cancer patients.

ABOUT THE HOUSTON ALUMNAE PANHELLENIC FOUNDATION

The Houston Alumnae Panhellenic Foundation (HAPF) was founded in 1987 in memory of Anna K. Chase, Delta Zeta.  Mrs. Chase was the first President of the Houston Alumnae Panhellenic Association (HAPA).

HAPF is supported by the Houston Alumnae Panhellenic Association and its member sororities.  The non-profit Foundation is HAPA's philanthropic arm, organized for charitable and educational purposes, specifically, the provision of scholarship aid to deserving college and university students.

Since its inception in 1987, the HAPF Scholarship Fund has awarded 672 scholarships, totaling $1,301,506.00 in scholarship money raised and given to worthy young college-age women. Each year, the Houston Alumnae Association of Zeta Tau Alpha funds one of these scholarships with proceeds from our annual Think Pink event.
